Handblown Glass Pendant Lighting | Designed & Made in Australia
Marea (pronounced mah-RAY-ah) is the Italian word for “tide”, reflecting the flowing forms, shifting light and natural movement that inspired this collection.
Designed by Contemporary Co and individually handcrafted in South Australia by Australian glass artist Llewelyn Ash, the Marea Collection transforms the beauty and movement of water into sculptural handblown glass pendant lighting for contemporary Australian homes, architectural projects and commercial interiors.
Every Marea pendant is individually mouth-blown using traditional glassblowing techniques. Rather than being mass-produced, each piece develops its own subtle movement, tiny air bubbles, delicate striations and flowing form during the making process. These natural variations are the signature of genuine handcrafted glass and ensure every Marea pendant is completely unique.
Whether suspended above a kitchen island, dining table or breakfast bar, installed through a staircase void, or specified for a hospitality or commercial project, Marea creates a timeless focal point combining Australian craftsmanship with contemporary lighting design.
Made to Order | Please allow approximately 8–10 weeks for your Marea pendant to be handcrafted.
Australian Made Handblown Glass Pendant Lights
Every Marea pendant is individually handcrafted in South Australia by Australian glass artist Llewelyn Ash.
Because every glass shade is made by hand, no two pendants are ever exactly alike. Slight variations in colour, movement, tiny air bubbles and organic markings are a natural part of the glassblowing process and are celebrated as part of the beauty and authenticity of handcrafted Australian glass.
When ordering multiple pendant lights, every care is taken to ensure the pieces complement one another while preserving the individuality that makes handblown glass so special.

Pendant Lighting for Kitchen Islands & Architectural Interiors
Marea has been designed for both contemporary residential interiors and architectural commercial spaces.
The collection can be installed as a single sculptural pendant or in multiples above kitchen islands, dining tables and breakfast bars. Marea can also be clustered through staircase voids and double-height spaces, or specified as feature lighting for boutique hotels, restaurants, reception spaces and luxury commercial interiors.
For kitchen islands in particular, multiple Marea pendants can create a strong architectural focal point while allowing the handblown glass to interact beautifully with natural and artificial light.
If you're unsure which Marea size, quantity or configuration will best suit your space, send our team a floor plan, room dimensions or photograph and we can recommend a suitable layout.
A Genuine Handcrafted Australian Pendant
Unlike factory-made pendant lighting, every Marea shade is individually formed by hand.
The glassblowing process creates subtle differences in shape, movement, air bubbles and markings from one piece to another. These are not considered imperfections; they are characteristics of authentic handblown glass and part of what makes each Marea pendant unique.
The result is both a functional pendant light and an individual piece of Australian glass art.
