Claire Richards

Claire studied painting amongst other mediums at TAFE where she discovered her style of characters in 2004. She has her story paintings exhibited extensively, amassing almost a hundred group exhibitions and several solo exhibitions. Her most resent Solo exhibitions were ‘How to eat Ice-cream’ and ‘Why do Wombats have short legs’ both at Urban Cow Studios.

Claire now shares a studio with four other painters near the beach at Brighton in South Australia. Her favourite technique is layering watercolour over crayon, pencil and ink. Her recipe for making picture book illustrations involves meeting real life versions of the animals she will be painting, acting out the poses, drawing on the computer and mountains of storyboards.

The inspiration for her range of greeting cards is old expressions and colloquialisms that can be taken as a compliment.
