Product Story
-
For her series Fractals, Alexandra Hirst worked with her partner Eric Cross, a South Australia-based Industrial Designer, to investigate the relationship between digital technology and material craftsmanship. The vase occupies a unique place in human history as a functional object and as a significant medium for exploring the material of glass. By informing the artistic process with digital technology and 3D printing, Hirst and Cross reimagined these familiar forms to explore the relationship between a virtual artifact and its physical manifestation. The apparent distortion and manipulation of negative space within each glass piece is a visual conversation about how digital technology and automation in manufacturing have altered our perception of crafted objects.
